What is a Podcast?

A podcast is like a radio show, but it’s broadcast over the Internet, not over the air waves. Listeners receive podcasts usually using a service like iTunes or Odeo or a program like the Juice receiver. (I myself use Odeo to subscribe to podcasts, and WinAmp or amaroK to play them.)

It’s called “podcast” from the words “iPod” and “broadcast,” but you don’t need an iPod, or any handheld MP3 player, to enjoy a podcast. (I myself don’t have one.) You can listen to podcasts on any computer.

How do I listen to be the story

There are several options:

  1. Download iTunes, which supports both Mac OSX and Windows. You don’t need an iPod. Go to the “Music Store,” click on “Podcasts,” and search for “be the story.”
  2. Use the free Flash-based PupuPlayer, by clicking this button:

  3. Copy and paste the be the story feed URL http://bethestory.com/feed/ into a podcatcher program, such as the ones you can find at indiePodder.org.
  4. Right-click on an episode’s MP3 link from the front page or an episode blog entry. (Or Command-click on a Mac.) Then:
    1. Copy the link location, and paste it into your favorite streaming MP3 player; or
    2. Download the MP3 file to your computer’s hard drive, and play it using your favorite MP3 player.

All be the story podcast MP3 files you can share freely under the Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivs 2.5 License. That means you can copy the MP3 file, as long as you keep it in one piece. So you can listen to it wherever you want, share it with your friends, burn it on CD’s… anything you want. Have fun!
